
RUN FOR THE ROSES

5K 8 a.m.
Youth 0.6K (1/3 MILE) 9 a.m.
Course:
The certified 5K course is USATF measured and approved. It
starts at the Roselle Park
District Clauss
Center (555 W. Bryn Mawr) near the intersection of Bryn Mawr
& West End and ends approximately 200 meters away in the parking lot of
the Lake Park HS west campus. It is a reasonably flat, fast course that is
oblong in the shape of a loop. It has long straight-aways, which are either
flat or downhill with the only mild upgrade occurring at the end of the race
immediately prior to the flat straight-away to the highly visible finish
line. The course winds through the residential Waterbury
subdivision of Roselle. It has a
wide start. A single water stop is at
about the 1.62-mile mark also at race start and finish.
WALKERS are welcome to participate but MUST start at the
rear of the crowd thereby enabling the runners an unobstructed access to the
racecourse. Child runners may not
start on the front line. Bicycles, strollers, skateboards, roller blades and
dogs are prohibited from participation in accordance with CARA's Circuit Race Regulations.
The Youth 0.6K is wholly contained within the parking lot
of the Lake Park HS and surrounds the finishers of the 5K event while they
are taking refreshments following the main event prior to the awards. All
participants in the youth event will receive an award, a T-shirt and a prize.
Registration
& Packet Pick-up:
Registration for the event may be done in advance via
the Internet by May 30th, 6 P.M.
Central time at Signmeupsports.com, Active.com, by mail or fax according to the instructions
on the accompanying registration form or on the day of the event at the Clauss Center starting at 6:00 am until 7:45 am prior to
the start of the race. Packets are only available on race day.
Timing:The
2008 Run for the Roses will use the ChampionChip
timing system. Each participant will receive an envelope containing their
timing chip. Chips will be distributed on race day only. You must wear
your chip on your shoe in order to be timed. No chip; no time. You are
responsible for returning the chip immediately after the race or mailing it
back in the provided return envelope. Participants will be charged $30 for
any lost or damaged chips.

Awards:
Male and Female, 10 and under, 11-14,15-19, 20-24,25-29,30-34,35-39,40-44,45-49,50-54,55-59,60-64,65-69,70-74,75-79,
80 and over, all male & female
Clydesdale divisions: 1st,
2nd & 3rd. Wheelchair
divisions, Male & Female Divisions, First Prize only. Clydesdale weight
confirmation must be done on race day
Clocks/Mile Markers:
Large Clocks and timers will
be placed at the 1,2 & 3-mile markers and at the
finish line where a large clock will be as well.
Premiums:
Participants in all events will receive an official 12th
Annual Run For The Roses high quality T-shirt available in adult sizes of
S,M,L,XL,XXL, official race packet, goodie bag, fruit, snacks, Nancy?s Pizza, beverage, music, entertainment, petting zoo, pony rides, and free
entry into the Post-Race Raffle.
Volunteers:
Volunteers are both needed and welcome. We need adults,
children and especially Scout groups to help with packet preparation, the
registration process, water station, race marshals, directing runners and
food preparation. Volunteers will receive an official race T-shirt, entry into
the post-race raffle and the satisfaction of helping a worthy cause.
Fund-raising & Pledges:
Participation in the pledge
program is encouraged but not required. All net proceeds from the entire
event, including pledges will be donated to benefit Tourette
Syndrome and to the The Tourette Syndrome Association. TSA is recognized by the IRS as a 501(C)-3 charitable organization.
Letters for fund matching or corporate sponsorship are available upon
request. Please make it a GOAL
TO TURN IN ALL PLEDGE MONIES ON RACE DAY. If this is not possible, please
turn in all monies no later than June 26, 2008 so that we can distribute
prizes and awards in a timely fashion. Please have all checks made out to
either: ROSELLE RUN FOR THE ROSES or THE TOURETTE
SYNDROME ASSOCIATION.
Gear Check:
A secure area will be reserved for gear check in the Clauss Center
adjacent to the registration area. A gear check tag will be attached to your
gear bag, which corresponds to your bib number. All items will be available
at the gear tent until 9 a.m.,
whereupon they shall then be available inside the Clauss Center
at the registration desk.
Race results:
Results will beĀ transmittedĀ by the end of the raceĀ day
to CARA and should be available at www.CARARUNS.org
Child-care/supervision:
Child care/supervision and will be available in a
secure area, free of charge for the children of any registered participant in
the 5K event while they are participating in the event.
Advance Reservations
for child-care are requested in order to provide sufficient supervision.
Children must be collected promptly after the parent or guardian has
completed the 5K event and prior to the start of the youth 0.6K event. Entertainment
will be provided for the children.

Rd), go west (left) to the Roselle
Rd exit. Turn Left (south) about 1 mile
to Bryn Mawr & turn right.
From the North and
Northwest suburbs: go
South on Rt. 53 to Exit #5 (Thorndale
Rd); go west (right) to the Roselle
Rd exit. Turn Left (south) about 1 mile
to Bryn Mawr & turn right.
From Chicago: take either the Eisenhower
(same as from South) or the
Kennedy (same as from North)
to Rt. 53 to exit #5 and follow the instructions listed above.

Rest Room/
Shower-Locker Room/Water Stops:
Inside rest
rooms are located at the Clauss Center at registration and at Lake Park H.S. at the end of the
race. Port-a-potties are
located near the start of the race on the access road behind the Clauss Center. Men and women locker rooms and shower facilities are located inside the Clauss Center. A water table and cooler
will be near the race start. A single water station will be at mid-race at
the 1.62 mile mark. Water, Propel? and juice will be
at race end.
